10 Steps To Waterproofing Bathrooms with Sealing Solution

Sealing Solutions is a sealing system that is based on the elastic foam technology. The sealing membrane can be applied directly to wall and floor surfaces without using any liquid sealing material.

Waterproofing is necessary for any bathroom or wet area in both renovation and new construction. Check out these 10 steps to waterproof your bathrooms with the help of a sealing solution.

  1. Check surface adhesion

Before installing the membrane, test its bonding strength. Also, spray primer with a spray distance of around 20 cm onto the surface. Let the surface air for about 5 to 15 minutes. Also, protect the sprayed coating from external elements.

  1. Clean work area

Before starting the process, check for the floors and walls to be clean. All the surfaces to be waterproofed should be clean and free of substances like dust, acid, and grease for optimal waterproofing.

  1. Apply corner pieces

First, apply the corner pieces. Remove the foil from the base and apply the corner piece on to the floor. Only afterwards do apply other membranes to the wall. Use pressure to remove the air pockets. You can use the smoothing tool to apply constant pressure to the layer while applying it.

  1. Apply tape on corners and edges

With the use of tape cover all the corners. Remove the film, apply pressure to remove air pockets and make sure that the tape completely overlaps the corner pieces. Try not to damage the membrane while using the tape.

  1. Waterproof pipes and fittings

Use the wall sleeves to seal all plumbing fittings coming out of the walls. Make sure there is no plaster residue between the wall and pipe before applying sleeves.

  1. Apply membrane

Apply the waterproofing membrane by removing protective foil from the backside and work your way down. Always apply it from top to bottom and make sure it overlaps with the tape and corner sealing. Mark and cut out a small hole if required for plumbing fittings.

  1. Correction and finishing

Use corners tape again to repair the waterproofing membrane strip. For that, place some corner tape below the piece and overlap the next membrane on top of the tape.

  1. Apply membrane on the floor

Finish the application process by waterproofing the shower/bathroom floor. While sealing the shower floor, make sure the membrane overlaps the shower drain.

  1. Cut out the shower drain

First, open up the shower drain. After the floor is completely sealed, cut out the sealing membrane over the shower drain carefully to open up the channel.

  1. Start tiling

Now, you’ve got a waterproofing that is directly tileable. The waterproofing membrane can be directly tiled using flexible tile adhesive.
